Through my work I wish to explore the contradictions inextricably linked to living in, or having lived in and subsequently moved away from, the Western Isles community and the resultant common, often mixed, feelings engendered in the large number of ‘exiles’ (myself included) in relation to home. My interests lie primarily in documenting ecological and cultural changes within this remote location and drawing attention to the many and varied disparities between the idealised notion of island life and the somewhat bleaker but more tangible reality.
