An Appeal to Photography

An investigation of the medium,
Curiosity keeps me here.
Was it stumbled upon?
Or can it be perfectly aligned
To conditioned ways of thinking?

Overwhelmed by unattained knowledge
Experience not had.
The deception that reality
Would be more accessible to gain.

Drawn to a recording device,
To observe, to document, to preserve.
Distance, refusal of experience
Construct an unlived life.
Construct an identity;
Evidence of existence only after destruction.

The medium questioned originality,
Undermined aesthetics, authorship.
Each reproduced work an interpretation,
Representations of changed signs.
Making me wonder,
Why bother at all?

Manipulation doubting its accuracy;
Its ability to depict reality, shattered.
A single, individual significance,
A longing of importance,
In vain?

A glass ceiling hit in practice
Resulted in over analyzing.
An obsession with the past created.
History, theory, criticism
To excuse; a scapegoat.

Desire to prove these cynicisms:
Denial of my lack of creativity.
